 About Me

First let me tell you a little bit about me, my name is Mike Cullen I'm coming up to 34 in May 2012 but I don't always act my age (we'll keep that one a secret though). I have been a global broadcaster for a number of years.

My career started way back in 1994 when I was listening to a talk show on a radio station and was thinking to myself "I'd like to do that" or something similar to those thoughts anyway. I got myself down to the nearest RSL which at the time was in South Shields (South Tyneside), this particular station was called 7FM, Unfortunately I wasn't on the air but it gave me a bit of a taste of what it was like to be in the surroundings of a radio station. I remember trying a little bit of broadcasting out in one of their studios but I didn't make it good enough to make the airwaves.

I practiced and practiced and finally plucked up the courage to get myself to a few stations around the region and do radio shows as much as I could, I remember being on one in particular which was WEB FM in Newcastle having a quiz show and I was shaking like a leaf, good job Phil was at the controls for me to be able to concentrate on what I had to do. This is where it all began for me and I've never looked back since, I have been on many stations since that time including overseas in the USA and The Baltic Regions.

I was brought up in Gateshead, Tyne & Wear, my school life was never nothing to boast about but I had a great time after school making many friends and being in many great bands, doing lots of gigs from 1996 - 2002, I was at college doing music and graduated with a Foundation Degree which I sometimes put to good use but I'm always busy having a blast doing radio as I have been doing it for many years and continue to enjoy myself as I do shows for people.

I am adaptable to many styles of radio shows apart from the commercial sound, not being trained in commercial radio I have no idea on how the commercial sound is established, that said I am ot a fan of commercial radio myself, I'm more interested in the presenter being him/herself which makes me an individual presenter, I would never try to be anyone I'm not.

Being from the North East I have found that its a very sought after accent in radio, however if you are to approach stations in certain areas you are not very likely to get very far, speaking from personal experience I know this to be true which is kind of disappointing but  many stations in the UK have their own rules and regulations.
